Rene Caisse's Original 4-Herb Essiac Tea – 100g
We have carefully researched the traditional four-herb formula associated with Rene Caisse and prepare this blend using the original four herbs: burdock root, sheep sorrel, slippery elm and turkey rhubarb.
This is a traditional herbal preparation and is made as a decoction, rather than a simple herbal infusion. The longer preparation allows the roots and other tougher plant material to be simmered before the tea is left to stand overnight.
Ingredients
Burdock Root*, Sheep Sorrel*, Slippery Elm & Turkey Rhubarb*.
*Grown without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilisers.
Traditional Preparation
For a concentrated preparation:

Measure 30g of the herb mixture per 1 litre of water.

Place the herbs and water in a stainless-steel or cast-iron pot.

Bring to a gentle simmer and simmer for 10 minutes.

Remove from the heat, cover and leave to stand overnight.

The following morning, gently heat until steaming, but do not boil.

Remove from the heat and allow to settle for a few minutes.

Strain through a fine strainer into a clean, sterilised jar and allow to cool.

Store in a cool, dark place. Once opened, refrigerate.
Take 15–30ml diluted in hot water, traditionally at bedtime on an empty stomach. Drink plenty of water while using.
The above method makes a concentrated preparation which can be kept refrigerated. Alternatively, prepare using 2.5 litres of water following the same method and drink as a herbal tea.
Traditional Herbal Use
Essiac has a long history of traditional use as a four-herb preparation. It is particularly suited to those who prefer making a larger batch of herbal tea and keeping it ready in the refrigerator.

Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
If taking medication, have a medical condition, or are under medical supervision, seek professional advice before use. This is particularly important because the blend contains turkey rhubarb and sheep sorrel, which may not be suitable for everyone.
