Herbal UTI Support Protocol
Educational Wellness Support – Not Medical Treatment
(Inspired by one of my teachers Dr Aviva Romm, MD – integrative herbal approach)
Step 1: Diet & Lifestyle (First 5 Days)
These steps are non-negotiable — they make everything else work better.
-
Cut out all sugar (including juice, sweets, honey, syrups, and refined carbs) for 5 days
-
Drink 6–8 glasses of water daily (8 oz per glass)
-
Urinate at the first urge — do not hold urine
-
Avoid sexual activity during treatment and for a few days after symptoms resolve
-
Rest as much as possible and keep your lower abdomen warm
Step 2: Nutritional Supplements
Probiotics
-
Take 4 capsules daily for 2 days
-
Then 2 capsules daily for 5 additional days
-
Look for probiotics containing Lactobacillus species
-
If you also have vaginal symptoms, make sure it includes:
-
Lactobacillus reuteri
-
Lactobacillus rhamnosus
-
Vitamin C
-
Take 1000 mg every 4 hours for 2 days
-
Then 500 mg every 4 hours for 5 additional days
-
Purpose: acidifies urine and supports immune response
Step 3: Herbal Remedies
Water Works Tea
Drink every 4 hours
A blend of:
-
Marshmallow root – soothes irritated urinary tissues
-
Uva ursi – antimicrobial for the urinary tract
-
Yarrow – anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial

Cranberry
-
Use unsweetened cranberry extract or capsules
-
Helps prevent bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall
(Avoid sugary cranberry juice)
Echinacea
-
Use tincture or capsules as directed
-
Supports immune response, especially early in infection
Step 4: Duration
-
Follow protocol for 5–7 days
-
Symptoms should noticeably improve within 24–48 hours
-
Continue probiotics for at least one full week
Important Safety Warnings
-
Do NOT use uva ursi if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have kidney disease
-
Avoid uva ursi if taking medications that affect the kidneys or urine pH
-
Do not use uva ursi longer than 5–7 days
-
Herbal remedies may interact with prescription medications — check with a qualified practitioner if unsure
When to See a Doctor Immediately
Seek medical care if you experience:
-
Fever or chills
-
Back or flank pain
-
Nausea or vomiting
-
Blood in urine
-
Worsening symptoms or no improvement within 48 hours
These may be signs of a kidney infection, which requires prompt medical treatment.
