Dang Shen (党参), also known as Codonopsis root, is a traditional Chinese herb valued for its nourishing and strengthening qualities. It has a long history of use in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), where it is traditionally used to support Qi, digestive function and general vitality.

This Dang Shen is grown according to the Daodi concept, the traditional Chinese principle of sourcing medicinal plants from regions recognised for producing herbs with particular quality and character. Daodi cultivation considers geographical origin, growing conditions and traditional processing methods.

The dried root is cut into slices and can be prepared as a traditional herbal tea or decoction.

Instructions

Tea/decoction: Add approximately 5–10g of Dang Shen root to 500–750ml of water. Simmer gently for 20–30 minutes, strain and drink throughout the day.
