The heather is gathered on the Connemara Moors and then boiled into a rich dark infusion which is used to make the lye, I add ylang ylang for a sweet scent. One can also drink heather tea at home, a perfectly delightful beverage, just simmer some stalks and flowering tops for half an hour or more, then drink, an old tea good for aches and pains.
