This batch of St John’s Wort tincture has been prepared using fresh flowering tops, harvested and macerated shortly after picking to preserve the plant’s full spectrum of naturally occurring constituents.

Tinctures made from fresh plant material differ from those made with dried herb. When fresh St John’s Wort is extracted in alcohol, it typically develops a deep red colour, reflecting the release of naturally occurring compounds such as hypericin from the intact plant tissues. In contrast, tinctures produced from dried herb are often lighter in colour, as some of these compounds are less readily extracted after the drying process.

Both fresh and dried preparations are traditionally used in herbal practice, but fresh plant tinctures are valued for capturing the plant in its living state, including volatile and delicate constituents that may be reduced during drying. This results in a tincture with a richer colour and a profile that more closely reflects the freshly harvested herb.
